This, exactly. Some of the “mean girls” at my school don’t have what you would consider “mean girl” names. I agree with @mellowyellows suggestion of researching names that were popular in [name]Virginia [/name] and [name]Louisiana [/name] during whenever they were born.
As with Southern names, I think the Appalachian feel comes more from the name as a whole rather than just the first name on its own. Are there any usable surnames on your family tree? If your family is from the Appalachians, you might could look to names of grandparents, great-grandparents, their siblings, and beyond for inspiration.
I’m just curious to hear some of everybody’s favorite nonbiblical names for boys. I like more classic, traditional names and finding ones with no ties to the bible is actually pretty hard to do.
