A low pressure system and the monsoon trough are producing thick masses of cloud over the Arafura and Timor Seas. Rain and wind will increase over the northern Top End during the next 48 hours as the low, torugh and associated cloud drift southward. There is a moderate chance that the low will develop into a tropical cyclone from Friday onwards, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
